Munich - The critically-acclaimed event series “Das Boot” thrilled an audience of millions on Sky. Within the first ten days, “Das Boot” reached in Germany a net total of 1.13 million viewers on TV* and an additional 1.89 million viewers via Sky’s non-linear distribution platforms**. Now Bavaria Fiction, Sonar Entertainment and Sky have decided to continue the series. The second season of the Sky Original Production is expected to begin filming next year.

“Das Boot” premiered on 23 November for all Sky customers in Germany and Austria on Sky 1 HD with double episodes starting at 08:15 pm. For the perfect binge-watching experience, all eight episodes of the Sky series can be watched via Sky Go and On Demand as well as on online streaming service Sky Ticket. “Das Boot” is also already available on Sky Switzerland. Sky Italia will launch “Das Boot” on January 4th, whereas Sky UK and Northern Ireland will launch the series in February.

Moritz Polter, Executive Producer International TV Series and Oliver Vogel, Chief Creative Officer, at Bavaria Fiction: “As executive producers, we have a responsibility to address socially relevant issues. “Das Boot” symbolizes the futility of war by revealing its horrors at sea and ashore in an accessible way in order to reach new generations of viewers. In this day and age, we mustn’t lose sight of the past so that we can continue to appreciate peace in Europe and not assume it as a given. We’re extremely grateful for the trust our partners Sky and Sonar Entertainment had in us to bring to life this ambitious series and are now looking forward to a brand new second season.”

Marcus Ammon, Senior Vice President Sky Original Production at Sky Deutschland: “We are very proud that "Das Boot" has been so well received by our viewers. From the beginning, we were convinced that we could create something extraordinary together with our partners, featuring a multi-layered yet entertaining story and an outstanding cast. Now we’re looking forward to working on a second season.”

“It’s very gratifying to see the overwhelming response to season one and the way it has resonated with viewers,” said Jenna Santoianni, Executive Vice President, Television Series, Sonar Entertainment. “Our partnership with Bavaria Fiction and Sky Deutschland has fostered an extraordinary international creative collaboration that has easily transcended borders in its appeal. We look forward to continuing to tell this compelling story in a second season.”

“Das Boot” has already been sold to more than 100 territories worldwide and will make its U.S. debut on Hulu. Territories sold to date include StarzPlay in France; AMC in Spain and Portugal; Epic Drama across Central & Eastern Europe; DI and MA in Serbia; Czech TV in the Czech Republic; VRT in Belgium; NRK in Norway; SVT in Sweden; YLE in Finland; RUV in Iceland; MNET in South Africa; StarzPlay in Latin America; SBS in Australia; and TVNZ in New Zealand.

The 32.8 million USD production, filmed in Munich, La Rochelle, Prague and Malta, brings the senseless reality of World War Two to life with two storylines running parallel on land and sea. “Das Boot” features an international cast from Germany, France, UK and the US, including Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”), Tom Wlaschiha (“Game of Thrones”), Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”), Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”), James D’Arcy (“MARVEL’s Agent Carter”), Thierry Frémont (“Juste un regard”), August Wittgenstein (“The Crown”), Rainer Bock (“Inglourious Basterds”), Rick Okon (“Tatort”), Leonard Scheicher (“Finsterworld”), Robert Stadlober (“Summer Storm”), Franz Dinda (“The Cloud”) and Stefan Konarske (“The Young Karl Marx”).

Tony Saint (“Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley“, “The Interceptor“) and Johannes W. Betz (“Der Tunnel“, “Die Spiegel-Affäre“) are the head writers. Das Boot is directed by Andreas Prochaska, one of the most renowned German-speaking filmmakers, whose credits include “Das finstere Tal“ (“The Dark Valley“) and “Das Wunder von Kärnten“ (“A Day for a Miracle“), which was awarded the International Emmy. Executive Producers are Moritz Polter (“Spotless“, “Crossing Lines“), Oliver Vogel (“Dengler“, “SOKO Stuttgart“), and Jan S. Kaiser (“Hotel Lux“, “Brecht“) for Bavaria Fiction; Marcus Ammon and Frank Jastfelder for Sky Deutschland; and Tom Lesinski, David Ellender and Jenna Santoianni (“Taboo“, “Mr. Mercedes“) for Sonar Entertainment.
